The Tanney Family File

1.    WILLIAM TANNEY was born in approximately 1809/1810 in New York, U.S.A, the son of Stephen Tanney and Mabradabul Tanney.  On February 13, 1832 he married AMANDA SMITH, daughter of Ebenezer Smith and Sabra Crippen, by Rev. Smart in the Presbyterian Church in Brockville.  WILLIAM was a farmer in Augusta Township, Ontario.  In 1832 he was listed at Lot 22, Con 8 with 50 acres, 1833 on lot 23, con 8 with 50 acres and in 1837 he's on lot 36, con 8 with 100 acres.  AMANDA was born in approximately 1807.  She died on September 24, 1869 in Augusta, Ontario and is buried in Maynard Cemetery.  WILLIAM remarried on July 26, 1869 to MARY ANN DAKINS, daughter of William and Christiana Dakins.  MARY was married twice before.  Her first marriage was on September 26, 1826 to February 20, 1893 in Augusta.  MARY ANN died on November 21, 1881 in Augusta.   Click here to view a newspaper article on the Tanney family.  Census notes on William Tanney.

2.    TRUELOVE TANNEY/TINNEY (WILLIAM¹) was born in approximately 1832.  I am unsure of the date but TRUELOVE eventually moved to the United States.  I believe that he got married prior to leaving but I have yet to find paper on this.  He took a wife by the name of MARY A. BOYLE and at some point changed their last name to "TINNEY".   TRUELOVE died some time between 1900 and 1910 as MARY is listed with her daughter in the 1910 census as a widow.  I'm not exactly sure what state he died in either as in 1900 they were in the Oklahoma census.  Census notes on TRUELOVE TANNEY.

3.    SOLOMON TANNEY (WILLIAM¹) was born on September 23, 1844 in Augusta, Ontario.  He married HENRIETTA L. SMITH, who was born on October 29, 1848.  She died on September 3, 1892.  SOLOMON married again on March 29, 1893 to MARIA ROMLEY, daughter of Thomas & Delina Romley.  MARIA was a widow at the time of their marriage with the surname of CUMMINGS.  I believe she died sometime between 1901 and 1903.  I have been unable to find a death registration for her but he married again  to SUSAN DONAHUE on April 8, 1903  in Augusta, Ontario.  SUSAN is the widow of Hiram Coville and John David Wylie.  (quick note: SUSAN is the grandmother of HENRY COVILLE, husband to Ethel Mae Halfpenny, daughter of Ida May Alberry)  SOLOMON died on May 9, 1906 and is buried in Carpenter's Cemetery.  SUSAN died on October 9, 1913 and is buried with her first husband Hiram Coville in Maynard Cemetery.  Census notes on Solomon Tanney.

4.   LOVINA MARY TANNEY (WILLIAM¹)  was born in approximately 1850.  She married JAMES LITTLEJOHN on July 4, 1871 in Amboy, Illinois.  JAMES died on July 4, 1881.  LOVINA remarried in 1885 to JACOB BROWN, son of James and Jane Brown. At the time of their marriage JACOB was a widow.  His previous wife was Naomi VanZant.  She is the daughter of James Vanzant and Jane Forsyth.  She died on March 28, 1885 in Whitchurch.  JACOB died on November 11, 1905.

Children of LOVINA MARY TANNEY and JAMES LITTLEJOHN are:

	i.	FRANK LITTLEJOHN was born on May 6, 1876.  on June 10, 1911 he married MARY E. CLARKE.  MARY was born on March 1, 1866.  This was MARY'S second marriage.  Her first husband was Charles Weston in 1883.  She had 3 children with him.  She died on January 2, 1926.  FRANK died on March 20, 1941.
12.	ii.	ANNIE LITTLEJOHN
	iii.	WILLIAM LITTLEJOHN born approximately 1879.
	iv.	EDWARD LITTLEJOHN was born in 1881 and died on January 23, 1934.

5.    JOHN TANNEY (WILLIAM¹) was born on March 4, 1857 in Augusta, Ontario.  On September 24, 1877 in St. John's Church, Ogdensburg, New York he married EMILY VOUT, daughter of Robert Vout and Tabitha Bertha Rose.  EMILY was born on March 20, 1857 in England.  (See the Vout Family file for more information on the Vout family line.)  JOHN died on February 4, 1923 and EMILY died on October 22, 1927.  Both are buried in Maynard Cemetery.   Census notes for John Tanney.

15.	i.	FREIMAN TANNEY, born September 25, 1879.
16.	ii.	CLARENCE TANNEY, the 1901 census states that his date of birth is July 11, 1880 the same date as his sister Emily, however I'm unable to find a birth registration for him.
	iii.	EMILY TANNEY, born on July 11, 1880 in Augusta, Ontario.
17.	iv.	CLAYTON SEYMOUR TANNEY, born May 4, 1884 in Augusta, Ontario.
	v.	MAUDE MAY TANNEY, born on November 15, 1887 and died on January 29, 1945.  She is buried in Lansdowne Cemetery.  On August 5, 1908 she married William J. McNeil, he is the son of Daniel McNeil and Alice Healy.  They had no children.
18.	vi.	LEVI E. TANNEY, born on September 28, 1890.
	vii.	URIAH TANNEY, born on September 28, 1890.  He married EVA MARIE MAY BARTON on December 6, 1911, daughter of Charles W. Barton and Mary E. Mosher of Glenmore, Ontario.  EVA died on February 20, 1963 .  URIAH married a second time to HENRIETTA VIOLET ROWSOME.  URIAH died on March 4, 1978 in St. Vincent De Paul Hospital and is buried in St. Peter's Anglican Cemetery.  "Taken from the Brockville Recorder & Times, "On This Date: URIAH TANNEY, 87, died in hospital, 2 weeks after twin brother, LEVI, March 4, 1978.
19.	viii.	LOVERNIA IRENE TANNEY
	ix.	HARTLEY DWIGHT TANNEY, born on July 29, 1898.  He married BERTHA MAY ALDRICH, daughter of Jonas Aldrich and Elizabeth Cardiff, on July 29, 1925 in St. Peter's Church.  BERTHA was born on December 3, 1895 in New Dublin and was a school teacher.  HARTLEY died on October 9, 1973 and BERTHA died on September 16, 1975.  Both are buried in Maynard Cemetery.  They had no children.

6.    CATHARINE L. TINNEY (ANDREW², WILLIAM¹) was born in approximately 1874 in Kansas.  Approximately 1897 she married RODNEY M. WILLIS.  He was born in approximately 1844 in New York and was previously married.  His 1st wife's name was Jennie, I'm unsure of her last name.  Jennie was born in approximately 1841 and according to census she was born in Canada.   I'm unsure of Jennie's date of death but it was between 1880 and 1900 as RODNEY is married to CATHARINE (Kate) in the 1900 census.   I don't believe that they had any children either.  Click here for census information.

	i.	LOVINA MARY WILLIS, born approximately 1866.  According to census records she was born in Illinois.
	ii.	ROBERT M. WILLIS, born approximately 1877.  According to census records he was born in Illinois.

7.  ANDREW TINNEY (ANDREW², WILLIAM¹) was born approximately 1879 in Kansas.  He married Edith Estella Nash in approximately 1902.  EDITH was born in approximately June of 1878 in Ohio.  Click here for census information for ANDREW and EDITH.

	i.	WILLIAM H. TINNEY born approxiamtely 1903.
	ii.	WALTER R. TINNEY born approximately 1905. He married a woman by the name of Delores and had 2 children.  WALTER died on october 28, 1996 in Columbus, Kansas.
	iii.	WANNITA TINNEY born approximately 1912.
	iv.	ANDREW C. TANNEY born approximately 1916.
	v.	RODNEY M. TINNEY born approximately 1916.

8.    ALBERT EGERTON TANNEY (SOLOMON², WILLIAM¹) was born on May 6, 1871 in Augusta.  He married MARY ANN VOUT, daughter of George Vout and Samantha Elizabeth Bishop.  (See the Vout family file for more information on this line)  MARY was born on April 18, 1872.  ALBERT died on December 27, 1936 and MARY died on March 27, 1959.  Census notes for Albert Tanney.     

Children of ALBERT TANNEY and MARY VOUT are:

	i.	LURETTA TANNEY, or Lulu as she was called, was born on May 18, 1892 in Augusta, Ontario.  She married MICHAEL RUEBEN on October 7, 1907 in Watertown, New York.  She was married a second time to WILLIAM NOLAN.  She died on November 13, 1937 and was buried in the 15th in the North Watertown Cemetery.
	ii.	EVALINE TANNEY, was born on March 8, 1894 in Augusta, Ontario.  On September 5, 1909 she was baptized at Rows Corners by Rev. A. B. Johnston.  She married GEORGE FENNEL on September 23, 1908.  On October 26, 1952 EVALINE died.  Together they had 6 children.
20.	iii.	GARNET TANNEY, born on July 25, 1896.
	iv.	EVA ELLEN TANNEY, born on February 27, 1899 in Augusta, Ontario and was baptized on September 5, 1909 at Rows Corners by Rev. A. B. Johnston.  She married FREDERICK BONNER on September 22, 1922.  EVA died on August 10, 1969. They had one adopted child.
21.	v.	Arthur Tanney
	vi.	EDITH TANNEY, born on March 10, 1902 in Algonquin.  She married CLIFFORD ALBERT SARGENT on May 2, 1918.  CLIFFORD is the son of Samuel Sargent and Mary Jane Langtry.  EDITH died on June 24, 1977.  They had 5 children.
	vii.	DOROTHY TANNEY, born on October 6, 1905 in Algonquin, Ontario, and was baptized on September 5, 1909 at Rows Corners by Rev. A. B. Johnston.  She married JAMES LLOYD on October 7, 1922.  On July 15, 1975 DOROTHY died.  Together she and JAMES had 5 children.
	viii.	GORDON TANNEY, born May 7, 1907, and was baptized on September 5, 1909 at Rows Corners by Rev. A. B. Johnston.  He married HAZEL DARLING on November 4, 1924 and had 4 children.
22.	ix.	HERBERT TANNEY, born June 3, 1909, and was baptized on September 5, 1909 at Rows Corners by Rev. A. B. Johnston.  He married ELIZABETH BRANT.
	x.	LEONA TANNEY, born on July 15, 1910 in Bisseltown.  On May 15, 1927 she married LEONARD VALENTINE SARGENT and had 3 children.
23.	xi.	HELEN TANNEY, born July 12, 1911 in Hammond, New York.  On Aug 19, 1929 she married ARDEN KIRKLAND.
	xii.	MARGARET TANNEY, born February 27, 1916 and married FORD BAILK.

9.    ELIZABETH ANN TANNEY (SOLOMON², WILLIAM¹) was born on July 14, 1873.  She married WESLEY WEBSTER on May 3, 1893.  WESLEY is the son of Cyrus and Ellen Webster.  WESLEY was born approximately 1870.

Child of ELIZABETH ANN TANNEY and NORMAN WESLEY WEBSTER is:

i.

HAROLD WEBSTER born on May 21, 1905 unfortunately he died on May 22, 1905 cause unknown.

10.    GEORGE SMITH TANNEY (SOLOMON², WILLIAM¹) was born on August 1, 1882 in Augusta, Ontario.  He married ELLA WEBSTER on August 6, 1902.  ELLA was born on December 11, 1881.  GEORGE died at the Sunset Lodge, Constableville, New York in July of 1967.  ELLA died on May 15, 1953.  Census notes for George Tanney.

Children of GEORGE SMITH TANNEY and ELLA WEBSTER are:

	i.	HILTON GEORGE TANNEY, born July 12, 1904 and married FLORENCE EILEEN LARRABIE on July 13, 1935 in the Forest Presbyterin Church by Rev. Tracey Spencer.  He died on July 2, 1984.  FLORENCE died on December 27, 1988.  Together they had 1 child.
	ii.	WILLIAM JAMES TANNEY, born December 24, 1906 and married RUTH POST on December 7th, 1929 at St. Martin's Church by Rev. F. M. Kenny.  At the time WILLIAM was living in Port Leyden, NY.  On October 18, 1983 he died in Lewis County General Hospital in Lowville on October 18, 1983.  RUTH died on March 23, 1988.  Together they had 2 children.
	iii.	LIVING TANNEY, married HEATHER  HOAGE.  He was born on June 7, 1910 and  died on December 18, 1963.  Together they had 7 children.
	iv.	FLORENCE ELIZABETH TANNEY, born November 17, 1921 and married WESLEY COSTER.  FLORENCE died in 1989,
	v.	IRENE FRANCES TANNEY, born July 17, 1920 in Booneville, New York.  She married JOHN T. SHUE on July 17, 1937 in St. Martin's rectory in Port Layden.  JOHN died on September 25, 1999.  IRENE died on July 5, 2004 and is buried in Wildwood Cemetery, Lyons Falls.  Together IRENE and JOHN had 6 children.
	vi.	CLARENCE EDWARDS TANNEY, born May 26, 1918 and died in 1994.

11.    WILLIAM HENDERSON TANNEY (SOLOMON², WILLIAM¹) , born on December 27, 1885.  He married MABEL JANE JACKSON  on October 7, 1907.  Her name is listed as Mary Jane on their marriage registration,  she was born in December of 1891, the daughter of Christopher Jackson and Eliza Lewis.  WILLIAM died on July 10, 1916 in Brockville, Ontario and is buried in Maitland.  MABEL remarried on August 20, 1918 to JOHN EDWARD MOODY.  JOHN is the son of William W. Moody and Elizabeth Miller and was born in approximately 1879.     Census notes on William Tanney.

	i.	JAMES TANNEY, born approximately October 1908
	ii.	ALEXANDER WESLEY TANNEY was born on February 1, 1910 in Maitland, Augusta, Ontario.  He died of heard failure on April 4, 1910.

12.   ANNIE LITTLEJOHN (LOVINA², WILLIAM¹) was born on July 26, 1878.  She married MARTIN J. DEAN.  She died on may 11, 1966.

13.   CLARA ESTABELLA BROWN (LOVINA², WILLIAM¹) was born on April 23, 1888 in Eldina, Illinois.  In Dixon, Illinois she married JAMES HARVEY SWANSON on October 12, 1907.  JAMES was born on February 6, 1884 in Kasbeer, Illinois. CLARA died on April 25, 1929.  JAMES died on July 14, 1950.

24.	i.	EDITH MAE SWANSON
	ii.	MINNIE ELIZABETH SWANSON was born on February 22, 1910 in Kasbeer, Illinois.  On January 30, 1945 in Clinton, Iowa she married WALTER LARSEN.  MINNIE died on September 10, 1988 in Sterling, Colorado.
	iii.	MYRTLE SYLVIA SWANSON was born on August 30, 1922 in Kasbeer, Illinois.  On August 13, 1939 in Clinton, Iowa she married ALLEN HARDEN EADS.  ALLEN was born on September 4, 1905.  MYRTLE died on March 18, 1959 in Clinton and ALLEN died on November 15, 1986.
	iv.	MARGARET MARIE SWANSON was born on June 12, 1913 in Birchwood, Wisconsin.  She married LLOYD EDWIN PIRCH on December 5, 1931 in Morrison, Illinois.  LLOYD was born on February 25, 1910 in Lost Nation, Iowa.  MARGARET died on October 26, 1976.  LLOYD died on January 8, 2002 in Clinton, Iowa.
	v.	JOHN JAMES SWANSON was born on October 27, 1914 in Birchwood, Wisconsin.  On April 8, 1948 he married VERNA ELCHERT.  VERNA was born on March 6, 1917.  He died on October 25, 1985 in Clinton, Iowa.
	vi.	RUTH ELENOR SWANSON was born on October 6, 1916 in Birchwood, Wisconsin.  She married JESS BROWN.  JESS was born on February 7, 1906 and died in June of 1977.  RUTH died on February 14, 1994 in Houston, Missouri..
	vii.	DANIEL SWANSON was born on May 25, 1918 in Barronett, Wisconsin.  He died on December 20, 1918.
	viii.	LAURA ESTHER SWANSON was born on December 29, 1919 in Thomson, Illinois.  On March 29, 1941 she married HAROLD HUGHES in Dubuque, Iowa.  HAROLD was born on January 29, 1921 in Clinton, Iowa.  LAURA died on April 17, 1994 and HAROLD died on September 1, 2002 in Fulton Illinois.
	ix.	JOSEPHINE PHYLLIS SWANSON was born on December 30, 1921 in Lyons, Iowa.  She married JOHN ELVIE GANN on April 8, 1950.  JOHN was born on April 2, 1921
